Dwight A. Sanders, 86, of Sunnyland, passed away on September 6, 2020 at Snyder Village in Metamora.
Dwight believed God was guiding his life. He studied the Bible, particularly Biblical History. At his home in Sunnyland he had a large flowchart of the genealogy of the Bible. He and his wife, Marilyn where members of Grace Presbyterian Church for many years. After Grace Presbyterian moved away from central Peoria, he was unable to drive that far. He then joined Crossroads United Methodist Church and utilized the bus transport offered them. He was a founding member of the Community Bible Study- Peoria East Group and has participated with the Men’s Group for 10 years. Even after Marilyn could no longer participate in CBS, Dwight continued to enjoy that opportunity to learn about God’s Word.
He had a 30 year career as a machinist at Caterpillar, primarily working at the Mossville Plant, where he was grinding crankshafts for the engines for many of those years.
For 41 years, he was a married partner with Marilyn. He always thought of her first, particularly after her Alzheimer’s Disease progressed. When Dwight had to go to the hospital, his first questions were: Where is Marilyn? Who is watching Marilyn?
In 2016, he and Marilyn moved to Snyder Village. Together, they enjoyed the music programs and church services.
Over the years, he enjoyed woodcarving birds, making beautifully carved sets of many birds. While at Snyder Village, he enjoyed playing bingo and painting. Several of his paintings are on display in the breakroom and the room he shared with Marilyn. These pictures complete with a myriad of bingo prizes Dwight has won and quickly presented to her.
He is survived by three children from his first marriage, Mitch Sanders of Wimberly, TX, Jovena Sanders of Cypress, TX, and Cassandra Basso of Peoria; four siblings, Carlonia Rodriguez of Morton, Jean Deadmond of Kinmundy, Charles Sanders of Centralia, and Thomas Sanders of Odin; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight H. and Lona Marie Scheriger Sanders and a brother, Vernos Sanders.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, September 10, 2020 at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria. Interment will follow there.
