Jack Downey, 80, of Washington, passed away at 6:55 am Saturday, December 8, 2018 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
He was born July 4, 1938 in Russellville, AL to Sam and Dell Seay Downey. He married Carol A. Bertnolle in Peoria, IL on October 1, 1964. She survives.
Also surviving are six children, Cathy (Mike) Ellis, Jamie (Jerime) Gendron, James Downey, Steve (Jenny) Downey, Mike (Miranda) Downey, Lisa (Tracey) Hughes; nine grandchildren, Christine (Carl), Hayley (Jarrett), Jerime, Jackson, Gage (Jodi), Bailey, Mikayla, Mian, Tyler; four great-grandchildren, Carl, Cruze, Lincoln, Peyton; two sisters, Irene (V.M.) Haley, JoAnne (Don) Donahue; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Wilda, Cassie, Midge; and two brothers, Homer and Vance.
Jack owned and operated Jack's Auto Service for over 60 years. He loved to fish and show people his many card tricks. He was an avid Cubs, Bears, and Horse Racing fan. He enjoyed his retirement days watching his grandchildren’s many activities, especially watching his grandson play baseball and football for the Washington Panthers.
Cremation rites have been accorded. In memory and in celebration of someone who made this world a better place a Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 pm Sunday, December 16th at the V.V.I. Club “The Bunker” in Sunnyland. To honor Jack the family requests attendees wear Cubs, Bears or Patriotic clothing. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Northern Tazewell Rescue Squad or OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
