Dr. Robert B. Sullivan passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL.
He was born in Peoria, IL, September 13, 1928, to James Francis and Edna Burkey Sullivan. He married Maryann Wetzbarger on September 22, 1951; she died August 26, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. James Sullivan II.
Bob started his education in a one room country school in Cruger Township, Woodford Co., and attended public schools in Eureka, IL, and college at Eureka College. He graduated from Loyola University School of Dentistry, Chicago on June 19, 1951.
He is survived by his four children Michael E. (Ann) Sullivan, Elmwood, IL, John L. (Laurie) Sullivan, Huntleigh, MO, Thomas (Marie) Sullivan, Wooddale, IL and Mary Kathleen Sullivan Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kaelan D. Sullivan, Connor M. (Tara) Sullivan, James M. Sullivan, Patrick T. Sullivan, Matthew R. Gordon, Kilian P. Gordon, and Kieran M. Gordon.
He served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps in the Medical Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, from October 12, 1954 to April 21, 1957, attaining the rank of captain. His service took him to Hawaii, Texas, and Maryland. After the service, he began his dental practice in Eureka and Washington, IL. He retired as a dentist from the State of Illinois Department Mental Health. He enjoyed playing bridge and gardening throughout his life. Bob was a wonderful grandfather.
The family would like to thank the staff at Farmington Country Manor and OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home for their compassionate care in his final days.
Visitation will be held at 10am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Washington, IL, on Friday, August 17, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment will be directly after the Mass in the family plot in Glendale Cemetery, Washington, IL.
