Nature 22

Daphne "Pat" Colgan

June 30, 1944 ~ April 27, 2018 (age 73)

Daphne “Pat” Colgan, 73, of Monica, died at her home at 11:50am Friday, April 27, 2018.

Pat was born, one of 5 children, to Robert and Garnetta (Lowe) McCann on June 30, 1944.  She grew up on the Creek Road and the south side of Peoria, attending Pleasant Hill Grade School and Manual High School.

Pat had her first daughter, Garnetta one month after turning 17 and her second daughter, Hari at age 23.  As a single mother, Pat worked mostly in food service, eventually owning a small café, “Pat’s Pantry”, in East Peoria.  She later moved back to the south side of Peoria and provided daycare to her two older grandsons, Jeff and Patrick Fox and enjoyed spending time with her third grandson, Joey McNally.

Pat met Michael Colgan in 1998 and they became companions, later marrying on June 6, 2009.  Pat found a great purpose in her life with Mike.  She enjoyed living in a rural community and supported Mike’s passion for working with sheep.

Pat was Baptized in 2011 and was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Monica.  She deeply cherished her church family.  Pat enjoyed sharing her faith with Facebook friends and family by posting an inspirational message every evening.

Pat bravely embraced her diagnosis with advanced stage pancreatic cancer last fall and opted to not pursue surgery or treatment options.   In November she glowed with the excitement of welcoming her great-grandson, Edsel, to the family.  Pat loved working in her yard and watching a colorful collection of birds that gathered at the birdfeeders outside of her kitchen window.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Harold Harmon; brothers Ronald and Robert McCann; sister, Ardell; son-in-law, Gordon Schaefer; nieces Christine and Barbara; and one step-son, Michael Colgan.

Surviving are her husband, daughters, Garnetta Schaefer and Hari McNally; 3 grandsons; 1 great-grandson; 1 brother, Jack McCann; several nieces and nephews; and Michael’s 5 daughters and their families.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service at Lutheran Cemetery, Peoria on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 am.  Pastor Sarah Wanck will officiate.  To honor Pat’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorial donations can be made to United Methodist Church, Monica or the charity of your choice.
