Obituary William "Bill" D. Schlesinger, 83, of Peoria passed away Friday, March 13, 2015 at 1:25PM at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Bill was born June 10, 1931 in Chicago to Thorolf E. and Margaret Neef Schlesinger. He married Mary Lou Engle on February 1, 1957 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2006 in Peoria. Surviving are Bill's children, William Schlesinger Jr of Tucson, AZ, Robert (Marie) Schlesinger of East Peoria, and Jane (Lonnie) Counterman of East Peoria; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and stepmother, Margaret Schlesinger. Bill attended Eureka College and Illinois State University, earning his Bachelor's and his Master's degrees in education administration. He worked as an administrator for District 86 and District 309. He also worked for Bradley University in the athletic department in ticket sales. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. He was a member of the Diehard Cubs Fan Club. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, especially to Panama City Beach. Memorial contributions may be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. A memorial service for Bill will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11AM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Father Tom Kelly will officiate. A visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 9:00AM-11:00AM. Inurnment will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
