Obituary
WASHINGTON - William Elgin "Bill" Knoblauch, 83, of Washington, IL passed away peacefully at 5:35 pm Thursday, January 7, 2010 at St. Joseph Nursing Home in Lacon, IL.
Bill was born on June 29, 1926 in Washburn, IL to Edward D. and Philomena Vogel Knoblauch. He married Dolores Krumholz on June 7, 1952 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 4 daughters, Jan (Chip) Webster and Laurie (Dennis) Hattan of Varna, IL, Chris (Bill) McComb of Indianapolis, IN, and Patti (Bob) Linsley of Bartonville, IL, and 2 sons, Dan (Laura) Knoblauch of Indianapolis, IN, and Tom (Laura) Knoblauch of Normal, IL, 14 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, 1 sister, Amanda (Don) Condit of Henry, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Andy Hattan, his sister, Mary Ellen Scheirer and brother -in-law, Morris Scheirer and brother, Eugene Knoblauch.
A US Army veteran, Bill served as a Sergeant in the Korean War.
Bill was a lifelong trucker and farmer in the Washburn and Toluca area, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington and of the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Menco Council #6707 in Washington, where he served as Grand Knight. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Spaulding Council in Peoria. Bill was a member of the Alhambra of Peoria and the American Legion Post # 661 in Washburn, IL. He also was a member of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau and had worked as the Bell Plain Township Assessor.
Bill's favorite memories were at the family farm, Lake Wildwood, and the County 4-H fairs, and he enjoyed going to Euchre tournaments.
A funeral mass will be at 10 am Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Fr. Joseph P. Donton will officiate. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm Tuesday at St. Ann's Cemetery in Toluca, where military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #661. A rosary service will be held at 4 pm on Monday, January 11, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, where visitation will follow until 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Elizabeth's Grotto in Washburn.
