William Lee "Bill" Hermann, 88, of Peoria, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 13, 2023 at his home with his family by his side. The family would like to thank OSF Home Hospice Care for their wonderful support.
He was born July 4, 1934 in Peoria, IL to Benjamin and Reba Harper Hermann. He married his sweetheart, Rachel Frances Wallenfang in Peoria on September 1, 1956. She survives.
Also surviving are three children, Tami Hermann (FL), Tim Hermann, Tara (Bob) Powers; five grandchildren, Chanel Hermann, Lauren Hermann, Bleu Hermann, Morgan Rianne, Ben Hermann (FL); one great-granddaughter, Holta; one sister, Carole Vissering; and two nieces, Linnet Vissering Minear (FL), Jody Vissering (FL).
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Todd Hermann; sister, Madeline Hermann; and nephew CJ Vissering.
Bill graduated from Woodruff High School and Bradley University. He is a United States Army veteran. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. as an engineer, retiring in 1997 after 42 years of service.
Bill was a founding member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria and was active in the Cursillo movement. He was instrumental in starting the first Cub Scouts program 156 at St. Vincent de Paul and was a Cub Master for many years. He also enjoyed coaching pony league and AA baseball. He was an avid hunter and was very passionate about fishing. He was most proud of designing and building with his family their cottage in Canada; spending many summers fishing walleye there.
Cremation has been accorded. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11am Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Willard officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before the mass from 10 to 11am Wednesday at church. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to Cursillo or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
