William "Bill" Galvin, 78, of East Peoria, passed away at 3:03pm Friday, May 27, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Bill was born January 17, 1944 in Peoria to the late Robert and Irma Sorrel Galvin. He married Rita Bandle in 1967 in Peoria; she survives.

Also surviving are his daughters, Teresa Benson and Kelly Galvin of Peoria; one granddaughter, Madisson Benson of East Peoria, who filled his later years with pride, adventure, and love; and his sisters, Debbie (Kevin) Stafford of Peoria, Kathy (Dennis) Belcher of Dunlap, and Pat Dunne of West Virginia.

He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Daniel.

Bill was a member of Steamfitters Local #353 for 60 years this year. In addition to being a mechanic, he also served the Local as President, Business Agent, and Training Coordinator. The Steamfitters Local #353 was always important to Bill. The brotherhood within the Local is something he always talked about, even after retiring.

Bill loved his home and neighbors on the Illinois River. He was also a member of the East Peoria Boat Club. Being on the river is a place where he gained more than friends, but another family. He often could be found sitting outside with his friends enjoying the view.

Bill can be described as a friend to everyone. He touched every life he entered, setting an example of how to live for everyone he met. Friends and family would describe him as the most selfless person they had ever met, and he took pride in his family. He made a perfect match for Rita, who he has been married to for 55 years. They took on life together in every aspect and traveled all over the country together.

William "Bill" Galvin will be missed by more than he would've ever dreamed.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the East Peoria Boat Club after 3 p.m.
