Obituary WASHINGTON - Wilbert Eugene "Will" Schalk, 82, of Washington, IL, died at 8:10 pm Sunday, January 1, 2012, at ManorCare at Riverview in East Peoria, IL. Born on June 8, 1929 in Normal, IL to Gustive Henry and Clara A. Miller Schalk, he married Barbara Lou Harris on April 21, 1956 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2010 in East Peoria. Surviving are 3 children; Cindy (Jerry) Roese of Washington, IL, Debra L. Schalk of Chicago, IL, and Bob (Kim) Schalk of Bartonville, IL, 1 sister; Margaret Weaver of Washington, IL, 3 grandchildren; Mike Roese, Rachel (Matt) Lane, and Amanda (Jim) Roy, and 3 great-grandchildren; Riley and Kody Lane and Milo James Roy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half brother, Delmer Schalk. Wilbert was a US Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean War. He worked as a Partsman at several area car dealerships, including Rossetter, Peoria Motors, and Velde Ford. He later worked as a Draftsman at Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 20 years, retiring in 1992. He was an active member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club, the Moose Lodge in Pekin, and the Old Farts Club in Sunnyland. He enjoyed going on various bus trips, especially to the gambling boats, enjoyed bowling, was an avid fisherman, and also was a Cubs fan. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Peoria. A memorial service will be at 5:30 pm Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will begin at 4:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria, IL.
