Warren D. Nichols, DVM, 90, of Washington, passed away at 10:10pm at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
He was born November 18, 1934 in Alton, KS to the late Bernard and Wilma Fuller Nichols. He married Naomi Holling on June 12, 1955 in Alton, KS; she preceded him in death in 2020.
Surviving are their children, Brian (Melissa) Nichols, Peter (Kelli) Nichols, both of Washington, IL and Martha (Howard) Rients of Towanda, IL; grandchildren, Courtney Nichols, Brice (Leah) Nichols, Bailey (Morgan) Nichols, David Hanson, Emelia (Aaron) Schinke, Grace Rients, Emma Rients, Austin (Tatum) Nichols, Grant (Stevee) Nichols, and Abrienda Nichols; ten great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Nichols.
Warren received his BS and DVM degrees from Kansas State University in 1958. After graduating, he joined small animal practices in Kirkwood, MO and Moline, IL before establishing his own private practice in Washington, IL. He also established Canine Country Club for pet boarding and grooming. He built, and for many years, operated Washington Skateland, later acquiring rinks in Streator, Bloomington, and Pekin. He served on the Board of Common Place in Peoria, and was a part-time employee at Kohl's for several years.
He was active in community affairs and was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, a social professional fraternity at KSU and continued to be active in fraternity affairs, serving on many boards and as Grand President from 1990-1992. He received the fraternity's highest national honor in 2002 by being inducted into the Alpha Gamma Rho Hall of Fame. After retiring, he continued to serve by visiting AGR chapters as a senior consultant on visit, giving his greatest satisfaction.
Private inurnment will be at Leasburg Cemetery in rural Alton, KS. No services are scheduled at this time.
