WASHINGTONa"Walter James "Skins" McKenzie, Jr., 81, of Washington died at 9:55 AM on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL.
He was born on January 23, 1929 in Peoria, IL to Walter J. and Emily (Rowe) McKenzie, Sr. He married Dona Jean Rosenberger on September 23, 1948. She preceded him in death on January 3, 1996 in Peoria. He later married Suzanne "Mimi" Schultz on Nov. 4, 2000 in Las Vegas, NV. She preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2009 in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Debbie McKenzie of East Peoria and Connie McKenzie of Edwardsville, IL; 5 grandchildren, Troy (Jami) Webb of Washington, Branden Adkins of Plainfield, IL, Ryan Dean of Marquette Heights, Heather Webb of Peoria, and Stephen Pfaffman of Peoria; and 7 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin infant sons, Michael Walter and Matthew James McKenzie.
Jim was a US Navy veteran, serving during World War II.
He was the owner and operator of Illinois Home Modernizing in Pekin for 45 years.
Jim was a well-known martial artist in the area and holds an eighth degree black belt. It was his mastery of the martial arts that helped him develop a strong mind in order to overcome his two bouts with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, May 26 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. The Rev. John Hauck will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family inurnment of cremated remains will be held at Fondulac Cemetery.
