Obituary

Obituary Walter L. Cary Jr., 88, of Washington, formerly of Chillicothe, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29 surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 25, 1929 in Wakenda, MO to Walter Lee and Jesse Florinda (Pence) Cary. He married Marilyn Marie Hoskins in Chillicothe on May 10, 1951. She survives. Also surviving are 7 children, Ed (Karla), Cindy (Mike) Nosbisch, Becky (Tony) Todd, Andy, Kate (John) Benedict, Karen (Glenn) Diener, Tim (Kim); 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Billie Lewis of Carrollton, MO. He was preceded in death by 1 brother; 2 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandson. Walter was a US Army Korean War Veteran. He met his wife while working for the A.T. & S.F. Railway in Missouri, later transferring to Illinois. After serving his country he became a carpenter and spent the majority of his years as a contractor from which he retired in 1997. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus in Washington; 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in Peoria; and Knights Honor Guard. As a dedicated member of the Honor Guard he participated in nearly 700 events. His volunteering included the Chillicothe Fire Dept., OSF St. Francis, and KC Blood Drives. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Edwards School in Chillicothe or St. Patrick School in Washington. Funeral Mass will be at 11 am Tuesday, Dec. 5 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm Monday at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, with further visitation one hour before Mass at church on Tuesday.
