Obituary East Peoria - Viola C. "Vickie" Dew, 85 of Peoria, formerly of East Peoria and East Moline, died at 9 PM on Thursday March 28, 2013 at Proctor Endowment Home. She was born on April 2, 1927 in Chicago to Rudolph and Elsa Knecht Radke. She married Robert Edwin "Ed" Dew on April 1, 1951 in Sterling, IL. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2006 in East Peoria. Her parents, two infant children; Patricia and Michael, one brother and one sister also preceded her in death. Vickie is survived by one daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Heinle of Germantown Hills, two sons; David (Linda) Dew of Lake Villa and Paul (Gina) Dew of Downs and her seven grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Heinle, Gideon Dew, and Steve, Ellie, Maggie, and Annie Dew. Vickie worked as a registered nurse for several years. She also worked as a secretary at First Presbyterian Church in East Moline. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria where she was active in the choir and the quilt club. She loved music, and was known for singing around the house. She enjoyed camping with friends and family. Vickie enjoyed sewing and knitting. Her children remember knitted slippers and stuffed animals that were made with love from scratch. She loved movies and musicals; John Wayne was one of her favorites. She was known for her home-made caramels, enlisting the whole family to help wrap them as Christmas gifts for friends and family. There will be a memorial service for Vickie on Friday April 5, 2013 at 11 AM at Northminster Presbyterian Church. Pastor Mike Shirey will officiate. There will be a visitation for one hour prior to the service. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private burial will take place in Glendale Cemetery in Washington, IL at a later date.
