Obituary
WASHINGTON- Velma "Rosalyn" Deaton, 89, of Washington passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at 9:05 A.M. at her residence.
Rosalyn was born January 10, 1926 in Swedeborg, MO to Charles and Olive Clark Barr. She married Robert "Bob" Deaton on September 8, 1945 in Swedeborg; he survives. Together they shared 69 years of marriage.
Also surviving is her son, Jim (Linda) Deaton of Washington; five grandchildren, Mike Salsman, Chad Deaton, Ryan Deaton, Ryan Kroll, Lindsay Schwend; seven great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and one sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Karen Salsman; one brother and three sisters.
Rosalyn worked as a homemaker.
She graduated from Richland High School in Missouri in 1944, where she was a star volleyball player. Later in life, she joined the Washington Presbyterian Church. She also worked for 25 years as an election judge in the local area. Rosalyn loved tending to her flower gardens and reading. She will forever be remembered by her family for her famous Strawberry Banana pie at their holiday gatherings.
A funeral service for Rosalyn will be held on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 1:00P.M. at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Rebecca Weltman will officiate. There will be a visitation an hour prior to the service, from 12:00PM-1:00PM. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
Memorial contributions may be made to TAPS No Kill Animal Shelter in Pekin.
