Thomas "Tom" J. Carroll Jr., 80, of Germantown Hills, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024.

He was born on October 17, 1943, in Chicago, IL to the late Thomas J. and Mary (Mattingly) Carroll.  He married Carol A. Atteberry in Peoria on January 14, 1967, and they shared a wonderful life together for 45 years.  She preceded him in death on February 5, 2012.

Surviving are his daughter, Molly (Chris) DuBois; granddaughter, Charlotte DuBois; four siblings, Colette (Kenny) Ludwig, Ann Carroll, Dr. Dennis Carroll, Kevin (Rita) Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Bradley University, Tom joined the Army where he was stationed in Tacoma, Washington and later, Germany. He then worked as an Information Systems Manager at Caterpillar Inc. for over 30 years before retiring in 2005. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, maintaining a beautiful green lawn, and feeding the deer, birds, and squirrels that were lucky enough to live near his home.  As devoted animal lovers, Tom and Carol rescued many cherished pets over their lifetime together, including two retired racing greyhounds and several cats.  More recently, Tom rescued senior dogs, including his beloved dog, Nezzie.

Tom was a proud Grandpa who enjoyed watching his granddaughter grow into a teenager. A devoted father and husband who worked hard to ensure his family was always comfortable and secure. He was a brilliant, selfless, and generous man, who wanted nothing in return, other than knowing his loved ones were happy.  He will be dearly missed.

Cremation has been accorded.  A memorial service will be held at 5pm on Monday, February 12th at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 4 to 5pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to PAWS in Peoria or TAPS in Pekin.
