Obituary
WASHINGTONa"Theodore L. "Ted" Oberle, 92, died at 1:15 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
Born August 20, 1916 in Lafayette, IN to Frank and Lillian Krueger Oberle, he married Mary Henney on October 25, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA. She survives.
Also surviving are 6 children, Susan (James) Selis of Kent, WA, Joan (Dean) Caldwell of Seattle, WA, Kristine (Steve) Adden of McCormick, SC, Timothy (Rita) Oberle of Greenville, SC, Lawrence (Kerri) Oberle of Terre Haute, IN, and Elizabeth Conlin of Palos Heights, IL; 2 sisters, Mariam (Jack) Keller of California, and Betty Ann Ward of Kalamazoo, MI; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 siblings.
Ted was a graduate of Purdue University, where he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees before beginning work with the Vanadium Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA as a metallurgical engineer.
He later worked for Caterpillar, Inc. from 1946 until his retirement in 1977.
Ted was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers and the American Association of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers.
He was also a member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, IL where a funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 10 AM. The Rev. Fr. Joseph P. Donton will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the mass. Friends are welcome to visit with his family Tuesday evening from 7-9PM at his home at 916 Birchwood Drive in Washington. Inurnment of cremated remains will be in Glendale Cemetery on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 10AM.
