Obituary
WASHINGTON - Thelma Irene Velling, 83, formerly of Washington, IL and Hinsdale, IL, died at 1:45 pm Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, IL.
Born on December 5, 1924 in Bundy, Montana to Alfred and Isabel Johnson Skogen, she married Arthur Charles Velling on March 10, 1947 in Seattle, WA. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2001 in Peoria, IL.
Surviving are 2 sons, Scot (Janet) Velling of East Peoria, IL and Michael (Frances) Velling of Federal Way, WA, 2 daughters, Kristen (Richard) Jakosa of Naperville, IL and Patrice (Bradley) Essig of Washington, IL, 2 sisters, Margaret (Clifford) Smith of San Carlos, CA, and Alida (Roy) Rieben of Clallam Bay, WA, 1 brother, Alfred (Mardene) Skogen of Ronan, MT, and 6 grandchildren, Eric, Grant, Andrew, Alexander, Tyler, and Sarah.
She was preceded in death by 1 brother, Clark Leroy and 1 sister, Evelyn.
Thelma was a loving, attentive wife and a loveable, gracious mother and grandmother. She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse and was active in the community, holding leadership positions in girl scouting and cub scouting. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, where she was active in many ways including serving as a Eucharistic minister. Thelma leaves behind a legacy of faith, inspiration, strength, resolve, and love. She loved well and is dearly loved by those whose lives she touched.
A memorial mass will at 11 am Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Father Joseph Donton will officiate. A memorial visitation will be from 5:30-7 pm Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, with a closing prayer at 7pm. A private burial of cremains will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora.
