EAST PEORIAa"Terry Michael Essington, 67, of East Peoria died at 11:12 PM on Wed, Jan 26, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born October 18, 1943 to Melvin and DeEtta Emery Essington in Keyesport, IL, he married Sheryl Swofford; she survives.
Also surviving is his son, Greg of East Peoria; daughter, DeEtta (Don) Wilson of Peoria Heights; 6 grandchildren, Cody and Cassie Essington, Donnie and Cheryl Wilson, and Melanie and Nathan Brown; 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Conrad (Lou) of Washington, IL and Gerald (Sharon) of Greenfield, IN; 3 sisters, Eloise Hodges of Washington, IL, Phyllis (Marlin) Wade of Greenville, IL, and Susan (Ed) Walker of Kokomo, IN; sister-in-law, Jackie Essington of Downey, CA, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Phillip and brother Larry.
He was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Terry worked as a senior service technician for Hobart Food Services for 22 years.
He was a member of the VFW Post #5921 in Morton and served with the honor guard for the Morton American Legion Post #318.
Terry enjoyed fishing, golf, and remodeling of the family home. He also participated in the upbringing of several individuals who considered him the most caring and nurturing of men.
A memorial service will be held at 6PM on Mon, Jan 31, 2011 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. The Rev. Evan Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.
