Obituary
Sybil Sue Grimes, 58, of Washington died at 2:00 AM Monday, June 29, 2015 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on September 4, 1956 in Evergreen Park, IL to James and Joanna Sparks. She married Steven M. Grimes on September 1, 1979 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington; he survives.
Also surviving are three children, Amelia Lynn (Tim) Delaney of Monticello, Laura Ashley Grimes of Kenosha, WI, and Brett James Grimes of Washington; her mother, Joanna Sparks of Glasgow, KY; one sister, Lea Sparks of Hazard, KY; and 1 granddaughter, Nora.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Sybil graduated with a degree in accounting from Western Illinois University in Macomb where she met the love of her life, Steven. She worked for Heinold-Banwart, Ltd and later worked for the City of Washington, as a CPA. She then chose to work from home to focus on her family. Sybil was her children's biggest cheerleader, was active in the schools, was an avid Washington activities supporter, and was a previous member of the Washington Jaycees. She was proud of her profession and especially proud of her children.
Sybil was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington where she previously served on the church council and was a Sunday school teacher.
A Funeral Service will be at 10 AM Thursday, July 2, 2015 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Pastor John N. Bates and Pastor Youngshim Mason will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and from 9-9:45 AM Thursday at the church. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Metamora.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home or St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
