Stephen
Spitzer
Nov 26, 1965 — Feb 20, 2022
Stephen Spitzer, 56, of Washington, passed away from a heart attack on Sunday, February 20, 2022.
Steve was born on November 26, 1965 in Willingboro, NJ to John and Wilma T. Collazos Spitzer. In the presence of their family, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lisa, on July 31, 2009; she survives.
Also surviving are his children, Jakob (Hannah) Spitzer and Katrina Spitzer; his father, John Spitzer (Ellen Erickson); and his brothers, Robert Spitzer and John Spitzer, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Steve was deeply passionate about everything he did, despite his humble demeanor. He was very athletic and had a love for soccer. He helped to establish the first girls' soccer program at Washington Community High School, coaching in the girls' and boys' programs over the years; he loved mentoring and supporting the young athletes he coached. Steve also loved the challenge of investing in the stock market; strategizing and forecasting played to his strengths. Steve's intense work ethic enabled him to retire after 32 years of service from Caterpillar as a Senior IT Supervisor. He had an enormous sense of responsibility to those he loved and was dedicated to providing for them. To say he was proud of his children and their passions is an understatement. He was their biggest fan, greatest encourager and best example. For Steve, actions spoke louder than words. Quiet acts of kindness communicated his love to his family; though those everyday actions will be missed, their impact will last always.
Steve's family will receive friends from 4-6:00pm on Friday February 25, 2022 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. A funeral ceremony for Steve will follow the visitation on Friday night at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TAPS in Pekin or WCHS Boosters.
