Obituary Stephen C. Schimpf, 59, of Washington, passed away at 7:15am, Monday, August 31, 2015 at his home. He was born November 29, 1955 in Granite City, IL to Bobbie L. and Theresa R. Crowell Schimpf. He married Tamela "Tami" Vanderheydt on December 30, 1988 in Pekin; she survives. Also surviving are three children, Justin Rogers, Nicole Basfield, and Ashley Schimpf, all of Peoria; four grandchildren; his mother, Theresa Schimpf of Washington; and one sister, Susan (Mark) Finley of New Bern, NC. He was preceded in death by his father. Steve enjoyed golf, and played for Washington Community High School. He had several holes-in-one over the years. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and University of Illinois basketball. Steve retired from Caterpillar, Inc. in 2004, after 30 years of service, last working in the image lab. His passion was the outdoors. He loved to bow hunt and was an avid fisherman. A funeral service for Steve will be held at noon Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor John Rothfusz will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Illinois Cancer Care.
