Obituary

Obituary Stanley Dean Honegger, 84, of Metamora, formerly of Washington, passed away at 5:00am, Thursday, May 28, 2015 in Metamora, surrounded by his family. Stan was born February 17, 1931 in Peoria, to the late Stani and Margaret Alt Honegger. He married Patricia Vicary on February 11, 1956 at St. Mark's Church in Peoria; she preceded him in death. Surviving are their three daughters, Andrea (James) Grant, Mary (Dr. Chris) Garrison, and Lisa (Terry) Tabb; grandchildren, Dan and Joe Grant; Lindsey Garrison and Emily Brashear; and Nic and Amy Tabb; great-grandchildren, Jaida Fernandez and Halas Homerin; and a brother, Richard A. Honegger. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Honegger; and a sister, Genavie Klein. Stan graduated from Greeley School, Woodruff High School, and Bradley University. In high school, he was selected to be part of the All City and All Greater Peoria Football teams. At Bradley, he played on their '49 football team. Stan enlisted in the US Army during the Korean War and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. A highlight of his later life was participating in the Springfield Honor Flight in March 2013. He was involved in consumer electronics for most of his career, working at Kiefer Electric, Mel Cotlar and Associates, and Klaus Radio. In his retirement, he worked part time for 12 years at Nena Hardware. He always looked forward to weekly lunches with his high school buddies. He cherished his family and loved spending time with them. A funeral Mass for Stan will be held at 10:00am Monday, June 1, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora. Visitation will be from 4-6:00pm Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory, Washington. Additional visitation will be one half hour prior to the Mass. Father Gregory Jozefiak will officiate. Inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to OSF Hospice or to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
