Shirley Hess, 92, of Washington, passed away at 4:15pm Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Villas of Hollybrook in Washington.

Shirley was born February 8, 1930 in Frankfort, IN to the late Frederick and Mary Squires Knabe. She married Donald W. Hess on June 19, 1948 in Washington; he preceded her in death in 1990.

Surviving are her children, Sally Hess (Samuel Martin), Deborah A. Hess-Brown (Clifford Brown), Stacy Hess (Mary Annen), and Devon Hess; grandchildren, Jessica Robson, Delaney Lehman; Alexander Hess, Hayley Hess; MacKenzie Hess and Colton Hess; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Larry Knabe.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred Knabe.

Shirley was a homemaker and she was an avid reader. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Conservancy.
