Obituary WASHINGTON-Shirley Kesler DeGroot, 88, of Washington, IL died at 9:47 PM Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, IL. She was born on October 17, 1923 in Eureka, IL to Loren P. and Ermine Felter Kesler. A 1941 Eureka High School graduate, Shirley studied journalism and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority at the University of Illinois. Shirley married Joseph L. DeGroot of Little Chute, Wisconsin on February 23, 1946 in Chicago, IL. She is survived by her husband, Joe, of Washington, 2 children; Becky (Mike) Irons of Indianapolis, IN and Jeff (Rebecca) DeGroot of Germantown Hills, IL, 2 grandchildren; Kate DeGroot and Sonnie Irons, and 2 great-grandchildren; Lanie and Camilla. Her parents preceded her in death. In addition to her many activities, Shirley served on the Eureka Community Unit 140 School Board from 1975-1981. Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. There will be no services. Cremation will be accorded. Memorials may be made to A.R.K.
