Obituary East Peoria--Edna Sheryl Essington 62 of E. Peoria lost her brave battle with cancer and died at 6:05 pm on Sat, Jan 29th at her residence, surrounded by family and friends. Born July 12, 1948 to Joerene and James A. Swofford, Sr. in Ypsilanti MI, she married Terry Michael Essington on April 5, 1965 in Washington, IL. He preceded her in death on Jan 26. She is survived by her mother, Joerene S. Swofford, of Sunnyland IL; son, Greg Essington of E. Peoria; daughter, DeEtta (Don) Wilson of Peoria Heights; 6 grandchildren, Cody and Cassie Essington, Donnie and Cheryl Wilson, Melanie and Nathan Brown; and 4 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Scott Swofford of E. Peoria IL, and James (Karen Kuchle) Swofford II of Convington, KY; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her father and son Phillip. Sheryl was employed for many years by HCH Administration of Peoria as a data systems analyst. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, golfing, and participating in the famous Girls Weekend events. She was truly an inspiration to many. There will be a funeral service for both Sheryl and her husband Terry on Mon, Jan 31 at 6 PM. The Rev. Evan Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home. Cremation rites will be accorded following services.
