Obituary

Sherran Ellwanger, 76, of East Peoria, passed away on Monday, May 1, 2023 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

She was born February 24, 1947 in Elizabethton, TN to Ralph and Bonnie Street Hensley. She married Larry Ellwanger on July 31, 1965 in Edwards; he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Tami (Gary) Werries of Jacksonville, one granddaughter, Katie Ellwanger of Jacksonville; five sisters, Betty (Terry) Gebhardt of Washington, Sandra Cook of St. Paul, VA, Brenda (Dallas) Hale of Norton, VA, and Lila (Herbert) Masters of Wise, VA; three brothers, Mike (Alice) Street of Goodyear, AZ, Ronald (Mary Ann) Hensley of White Sulphur Springs, WV, and James Hensley of Norton, VA; brothers-in-law, Jimmie Daugherty of Washington and John (Karol) Ellwanger of Kerrville, TX; sister-in-law, Louise Schneider of Washington; aunt, Brenda Carl of Washington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Sue Daugherty.

Sherran graduated from Washington Community High School in the top 10%of her class. She worked in Human Resources for Ruppman Marketing in Peoria for 21 1/2 years, then in Human Resources for Manor Care in East Peoria until retiring in 2012.

She was a member of Ro-Land Manor Baptist Church in Sunnyland for most of her life. She loved shopping (with a special fondness for shoes), as well as gardening, yardwork, and being outdoors. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a natural caregiver, always thinking of others. She will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, compassion, generosity, and her huge heart.

A funeral service for Sherran will be held at 11:00am Monday, May, 8, 2023 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Mark Byars will officiate. Visitation will be from 2-4:00pm Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
