Obituary
Scott J. Verplaetse, 61, of Washington, formerly of Geneseo and East Moline, passed away at 10:37am, Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at his home.
He was born on September 3, 1953 in Moline, IL to Walter and Patsy Kellum Verplaetse. He married Cheryl Kincaid on June 30, 1973.
Surviving is his wife of 42 years; their children, Eric (Jessica) Verplaetse of Peoria and Sara Verplaetse of St. Louis, MO; granddaughter, Molly Verplaetse; sisters, Lynn Carlton and Annette (Kirk) Doonan; brothers, Randall (Dru ), Ken, and Wayne (Angie) Verplaetse; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Verplaetse; and an infant son, Adam Verplaetse.
Scott grew up in East Moline, and graduated from United Township High School in 1971. He worked for Verplaetse Excavating there, and went on to work for Kinder/Morgan Natural Gas Pipeline for over 30 years, working in Geneseo, St. Elmo, and Marshall, TX. He was an assistant Scout Master for Troop 131 in Geneseo. Scott was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. He enjoyed working on vehicles, fishing, reloading, target shooting, and home remodeling. Scott will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and willingness to always help his friends and neighbors.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10 am Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Father Steve Willard will officiate. Visitation will be from 3-5 pm Monday, September 7, 2015 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and additional visitation one half hour prior to mass at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington
