Sarah D. Stoner, 97, of East Peoria, died peacefully at 12:34 pm Monday, November 8, 2021 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Sarah was born December 5, 1923 to James B. and Hester Davis in Evansville, IN.
She is survived by her sons, David (Trudy) Stoner of Princeville, James Stoner of Peoria, and John (Nancy) Stoner of Belleair, FL; her daughter, Susan Stoner of Peoria; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Desiree) Stoner of San Diego, CA, Scott (Heather) Stoner of Bloomington, IL, Matthew (Laura) Stoner of Peoria, Elizabeth Stoner of Peoria, and Kyle Stoner of Belleair, FL. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Cameron and Lennon Stoner of Bloomington, IL, and Trenton and Tallulah Stoner of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of 71 years, Donald F. Stoner.
Sarah was raised on a farm in Cynthiana, IN. She always loved farming and always shared stories of growing up on a farm. She had a green thumb around the house.
She was a volunteer for many community organizations. She volunteered at Proctor Hospital for over 40 years, at nursing homes in the area and at the former PARK organization. She knitted sweaters for the cancer bears, mittens for school children, baby hats for newborns at Unity Point Methodist Hospital, lap robes for the veterans, and shrugs for Hospice. She and her husband were square dancers for many years. Sarah enjoyed baking; her chocolate chip bar cookies and Christmas cut-out cookies were always a neighborhood favorite. Sarah loved her family and friends and will be truly missed by all those who knew her.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service for Sarah will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, November 12, 2021 at the First Baptist Church in Peoria. Pastor Robert Collins will officiate. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service from 11am to 12 Noon. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
