Obituary Sandra Kay (Moredock) Roberson, 74, longtime resident of Washington, Illinois passed away at 7:31 PM, on Monday, December, 28, 2015. She was born in Chrisney, Indiana, January 26, 1941 to Ulysses R. and Minnie M. Miles Moredock. She married the late Glenn Roberson in Peoria, Illinois on September 3, 1960. She is survived by her mother Minnie; her three sons, Lance A. Roberson (Patti Seep) of St. Louis, Missouri, Eric M. Roberson of Chicago, Illinois, Keith P. (Dawn) Roberson of Washington, Illinois; her two loving grandsons Jaden M. Roberson and Kai N. Roberson; and her loving siblings Farrell L. (Nancy) Moredock, Joseph R. (Bobbi) Moredock of Memphis, Tennessee, Joan Y. (Frank) Randle of Peoria, Illinois, Rosiland A. (Daniel) Swain of Peoria, Illinois and Phillip M. (Victoria) Moredock of Peoria, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her father, Ulysses R. Moredock in 1974 and her sister, Nancy Ruth (Moredock) Smith in August 2011. Her family moved from Indiana to Wisconsin, finally settling in Peoria, Illinois. Sandra attended St. Thomas Elementary School and the Academy Of Our Lady High School. Following high school she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1963 and her Master of Arts degree from Bradley University. Mrs. Roberson also earned a Master of Science from the University of Illinois. Mrs. Roberson had been the a Counselor at Manual High School, Dean of Girls at Woodruff High School, Counselor at Greeley Elementary, and teacher at White and Irving Elementary Schools. After 25 plus years at District 150, she became the Principal of the school at the Illinois River Correctional Center. Traveling, photography, and adventure were her passions. Her travels took her to Botswana, China, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Venezuela, the Caribbean and 49 of the 50 states. She was looking forward to traveling to Cuba. She used just about every mode of transportation in her travels--car, plane, train and boat. She was never without her cameras and enjoyed entering her photography in contests at the Heart of Illinois Fair. Her photography also led to the creation of a beloved family calendar featuring many family pictures. At the age of 69, she learned to ride a motorcycle, much to the dismay of her family. At her core, Mrs. Roberson was a Mom; not just her sons but to her students, neighborhood children, nieces, nephews and to all that needed kindness and understanding. She knew no strangers and believed kindness was always the answer. A funeral Mass for Sandra will be held at 11:00am Saturday, January 2, 2016 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Peoria Heights, Illinois. Visitation will be held two hours prior to Mass at the church. Interment will be January 9, 2016 at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery in Rockport, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Social Services.
