Obituary
WASHINGTON - Ruth P. Dougherty, 79, of Washington died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006, at Meadows Mennonite Retirement Home in Chenoa.
Her funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington with Rev. Joseph P. Donton officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Washington. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington.
Ruth was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Springfield, the daughter of John E. and Lola Hill Stevens. She married James P. Dougherty on Oct. 11, 1947, in Springfield. He died Jan. 28, 1992.
Survivors include three sons, Patrick (Teresa) Dougherty of Washington, Michael (Patricia) Dougherty of Germantown Hills and Thomas (Cathy) Dougherty of Morton; two daughters, Mary Jo (Tim) Flynn of Bloomington and Kathleen (Ken) Matheny of Clayton, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen McKennedy and Rita (Robert) Bramlet, both of Springfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, one brother and three sisters.
Ruth graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Springfield. She was a teacher's aide at Washington Grade School and later was a secretary at ICC junior college in East Peoria.
Ruth was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington.
