Obituary
Washington- Ruby J. Valentine, 79, of Washington died at 11:25 AM on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka. She was born on December 26, 1929 in Lawrenceburg, TN to Vardie and Vera (Wilson) Wilburn. She married J.C. Valentine on March 15, 1947 in Florence, AL. He preceded her in death on March 25, 2001.
Survivors are 2 sons, Stan (Sandy) Valentine of East Peoria and Christopher (Julie) Valentine of Jacksonville, IL; 1 daughter Linda (Tom) Abbott of Washington; 3 sisters, Marie Hodge and Melanie Gray, both of Summertown, TN and Grace (Harold) Pugh of East Peoria; 1 brother, Ray (Ginger) Wilburn of Lawrenceburg, TN; 6 grandchildren, Kelly (Larry) Green, Phil (Toni) Abbott, Jason Valentine, Doug Valentine, Samantha Valentine, and Jack Valentine, 4 great-grandchildren, Erica Bartsch, Adam Green, Tiffany Abbott, and Cassidy Abbott, and 1 great-great-grandson, James Daniel Bartsch.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, and one granddaughter, Laura Valentine.
Ruby worked at Hotel Pere Marquette in Peoria for 30 years in laundry and housekeeping, where she served as both a Manager and also a Union Steward. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Peoria, where she was active with the Jolly 60's group. In later years, she attended Beverly Manor Baptist Church in Washington. Ruby also served as a precinct judge in Peoria County.
Services for Ruby will be held at 10:00AM Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL. Pastor Michael McCoskey and Pastor James Clark will officiate. Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at the funeral home, where additional visitation will be from 9-10 AM on Thursday prior to the service.
Memorials in her name may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
