Obituary WASHINGTON-Ruby "Maxine" Perkins, 80, of Washington, IL died at 7:05 AM Friday, March 2, 2012 at her home. Born on December 15, 1931 in Sardis, MS to James and Mary B. Martin Appleton, she married Robert T. Perkins on February 7, 1947 in Batesville, MS. He preceded her in death on December 8, 1984. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James, Afton, and Brooks Appleton, sisters, Mary Louise Tidwell and Doris Marie Dickson, and 1 infant son. Surviving are her daughter, Janie (Marty) Potts of East Peoria, IL, 2 brothers, Richard (Mary Jane) Appleton, and Winfred Appleton, and 1 sister, Patricia Segars, all of Batesville, MS, 2 grandchildren, Angie (Andy) Hannan of Pekin, IL and Chris (Tina) Skelton of St. Joseph, IL, and 5 great-grandchildren, Drew, Alex and Amanda Hannan and Nick and Luke Skelton. Maxine came to Peoria, IL from Mississippi in 1951 and in the mid 50's she attended Brown's Business School for secretarial skills. In the late 50's she worked in the office of Princess Peggy Dress Co. in downtown Peoria, until 1969. Maxine then went to work in the payroll department at Illinois Central College, retiring in August 1987. She and her husband enjoyed participating in various bowling leagues for many years. She was a member of Washington Presbyterian Church in Washington. Funeral services will be at 2 PM Monday, March 5, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Pastor Rebecca Weltmann will officiate. Visitation will be from 3-5 PM Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
