Roy Lawrence Schaefer Jr., 67, of Florence, IN, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at his residence. He entered this life on August 10, 1954 in Peoria, IL, and was the son of Roy Lawrence and Agnes (Blattel) Schaefer Sr. They preceded him in death. He was raised in Washington, IL where he attended St. Patrick's Grade School and was a 1972 graduate of Washington Community High School. On November 2, 1987, Roy was united in marriage to LuAnn F. Harris in Benton, MO. He was employed by Ryder Trucking in Cape Girardeau, MO. He later owned and operated Schaefer Trucking in Benton, MO and Florence, IN from 1996 to 2006, He moved to Florence, IN in 2000 where he resided until his passing. Roy is survived by his companion, LuAnn F. (Harris) Schaefer of Florence, IN; his step-daughters, Heather (Jamie) Thompson of Murfreesboro, TN and Melissa (Johnny) Gaines of Kelso, MO; his step-grandchildren, Andrea, Alex and Austin; his step-great-granddaughter, Willow; his sisters and brothers, Carolyn Schaefer, Bettina (Randy) Foster, Richard (Michelle) Schaefer, Anthony (Brenda) Schaefer, and Paula (Michael) Neisler, all of Illinois, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Inurnment will be at 1 pm Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Glendale Cemetery, Candlewood Drive and Oakwood Lane, Washington, IL. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or the Guy S. Harris Scholarship Fund.
