Obituary
Roy Edwin Orr, Sr., 76, of Washington, IL passed away Tuesday July 18th at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
Roy was born March 12 th, 1930 in Danville, Il. to Ridgeway Ralph and Margaret Pearl Duprey Orr. They preceded him in death along with an infant son Ronald Eugene, his sisters; Eleanor Gutteridge and Carol Orr.
On October 29th, 1949 he married his "Wild Irish Rose" D.
Aileen Glatz. She survives along with their 6 children; Rebecca Prunty of Morton; Roy E Orr, Jr, of East Peoria; Terri (Mark) Dickson of Mackinaw; Tim (Dee) Orr of Bellevue, Chris (Mary) Orr and Nick (Jane) Orr both of Washington. Roy was also the proud grandfather of 22 Grandchildren, 34 Great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Larry Orr of Georgetown, Il., Alan Orr of Fallbrook, CA. and his sisters Mattie Jean "Penny"(Al Larson) of Tempe, AZ. and Barbara Carter of Champaign, Il.
Roy served in the US Navy from 1947 to 1948 and was in the Naval Reserves until 1954. He was a member of the American Legion Post #100 in Washington,IL. Roy also served on the school board for St. Patrick's School in Washington and Spalding Institute in Peoria. He worked as a printer most of his life retiring from MACO Business Forms in Peoria in 1992. He filled his retirement days transporting cars for Uftring Car Dealers. Roy held several offices for the Hillcrest Church Golf League in Washington and played on the Catholic Church Dart Ball League. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Menco Council #6707 in Washington and a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Spalding Council in Peoria. Although he enjoyed volunteering with the Knights of Columbus, his first love was golf. He has been credited with four hole-in-ones at Hillcrest Golf Course in Washington.
Roy was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington, IL, where a funeral Mass will be Saturday July 22, 2006 at 10:00 am. The Fr. Joseph P. Donton will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday, July 21, 2006 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, where a rosary service will be at 7 pm. Graveside services will be held at 3pm Saturday at Resurrection Cemetery in Danville, IL.
