Obituary

Roy Kuykendall, 86, of Peoria, formerly of Morton, passed away at 3:09pm Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Lutheran Hillside Village. He was born April 2, 1935 in Peoria to the late Rodney Roy and Pearlle McGheehe Kuykendall. He married Patricia Lee on December 2, 1956 in Creve Coeur. Surviving is his wife Pat, of Washington; daughters, Cathy (Denny) Endress of Tremont and Karen (Tony) Gama of Peoria; grandchildren, Chelsi (CJ) Carlin, Melanie (Trey) Tennell, and JT Ramsey; great-grandchildren, Tinley, Charli, and Zayne; and a brother, Kenneth (Jackie) Kuykendall. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rodney R. Kuykendall, Jr.; granddaughter, Ashley Waddell; and his sisters, Melba and Norma. Roy served in the Navy as a Radarman aboard the USS Hornet during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he went to work for Caterpillar, retiring in 1987 as factory manager of the foundry at Mapleton. Roy was a major Cubs fan and love to golf and fish, especially during the winters he spent in Florida. His recent favorite pastime was doting over his great-grandchildren. Private services have been held and interment was at Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Arrangements were in the care of Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church of Morton or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital- Midwest Affiliate.
