Roy "Bruce" Ashley, 77, of Washington died at 4:40pm on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born October 6th, 1944 in Peoria, Illinois to Roy Ashley and Henrietta Franz. He married Jeanette Nutter on June 22nd, 1963 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, David (Donna); one daughter, Lori (Patrick) Bennett; three grandchildren, Amanda (Mike) Rogers, Curtis (Anna) Spence, Paige (John) Swearingen; and three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Amelia and Sawyer. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
After graduating from Manual High School in 1962, Bruce joined the United States Air Force serving at Altus Air Force Base until 1966. He then joined the 182nd Fighter Group, Peoria, Illinois until he retired as Chief Master Sergeant in 2001 as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Illinois National Guard at Camp Lincoln. After his retirement, he worked at the Peoria Civic Center as Director of Operations from 2001 to 2005.
Bruce enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He truly enjoyed traveling with his wife Jeanette and loved spending winters in Florida.
A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held at the Stoney Creek Hotel, 101 Mariners Way, East Peoria, Illinois on Sunday, October 24, 2021 from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, those attending the celebration are kindly asked to wear a mask. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
