Obituary

Rosemary Kloet of Peoria, and a longtime resident of Washington, passed away on July 7, 2021 at Buehler Home in Peoria. Rosemary was born on October 15, 1927 in Faribault, MN, to the late Archie and Marie (Kinnery) Devitt. She grew up with her beloved family on a farm in Shieldsville, MN and graduated from Bethlehem Academy in Faribault. Following high school, she worked for a time at Brown and Bigelow in St. Paul, MN. Rosemary married Martin Kloet on June 18, 1949 in Shieldsville, MN and they were married for 72 years. She and Martin moved to the Peoria area a week later as Martin took a job as an engineer at Caterpillar. While their adventure continued and took Rosemary to live in Minneapolis and to Brussels, Belgium for many years, to their longtime winter home in Green Valley, Arizona, and on travels across Europe and Asia, Washington was Rosemary's adopted hometown, where she spent over 60 years. Rosemary especially enjoyed spending time with her family, who she loved very much and who gave her great pride. She loved her many dear friends from across the country and around the world. Rosemary loved a variety of activities, including volunteer work. She was an active volunteer as a room mother at St. Patrick School in Washington, where she was also a volunteer assistant in the grade school office. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick Church and was instrumental in the establishment of the Father Schubert Endowment. Rosemary was also a member of the Washington Art Society. Rosemary had a passion for painting and studied art all of her adult life. She concentrated on landscapes of the southwestern US and studied under professional artists in Arizona and Illinois. Rosemary is survived by Martin and two sons: Peter (Mary) of Naples, FL, Tom (Margaret) of Bluffton, SC and a daughter-in-law, Mary Kloet of Bettendorf, IA. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kathleen (Brian) Jacobs of New Market, MD, Paul of Omaha, NE, Mark (Debbie) of Geneva, IL and Megan (James) Gill of Elmhurst, IL and by seven great-grandchildren: Carly Jacobs, Luke Jacobs, Andrew Jacobs, Noel Jacobs, Connor Kloet, Reed Kloet and Peter Gill. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Devitt of Richfield, MN, and her nieces and nephews. Rosemary was preceded in death by a son, John, and by her brother, Maurice Devitt. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Patrick Church in Washington. Visitation will be held at the church starting at 10 am. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials in Rosemary's name may be made to the Father Schubert or Sister Mary Ann Endowment at St. Patrick Church.
