Obituary

Ronald M. Johnson, 82, of Washington, formerly of East Peoria, passed away at 7:58 am Friday, July 9, 2021 at his home with his daughters by his side. He was born October 17, 1938 in Kewanee, to Keith and Marjorie Landergren Johnson. He married Catherine A. Lyle on June 4, 1961 in Kewanee. She preceded him in death on December 27, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gary. Surviving are two daughters, Tracy Johnson of Lisle, Jill (Glenn) Wibowo of Lancaster, CA; two grandchildren, Kobe and Wesley Wibowo; brother, Ted (Mary) Johnson of McHenry; sister, Jayne (Bob) Winn of Toulon; sister in law, Kathleen Johnson of Princeville; his companion, Mary Carlson of Kewanee; and several nieces and nephews. Ron graduated from Kewanee High School in 1956. He worked for Kroger for 17 years starting as a bagger while in high school and worked his way up to Zone Manager. After that, he became a food broker to restaurants and food service establishments in Central Illinois and earned many awards and prizes for his talents in sales and marketing. He also enjoyed mentoring many younger people in his professional and personal endeavors. In his retirement, he was an N.R.A. certified gun safety and shooting instructor and member of local Sportsmen's Clubs, until his health no longer permitted. He loved watching local high school sports, especially when his brother Gary was coaching football, and he enjoyed attending the activities of his great niece and nephews. He was an avid Fighting Illini, and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Cremation has been accorded. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Metamora on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 10:30am. Visitation will be from 4 to 6pm Friday, July 30th at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington with recitation of the Rosary at 3:45pm. Inurnment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Kewanee at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Apostolic Sisters of St. John, 10809 W. Legion Hall Rd. in Princeville, IL 61559 or to the Coach Gary Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Better Banks, 200 W. Williams St. in Wyoming, IL 61491.
