Ronald "Gary" Hunt, 78, of Washington, passed away at 2:50pm Monday, September 6, 2021 at Snyder Village Health Center in Metamora. He was born July 25, 1943, in Alton IL. Ronald was preceded in death by his biological parents and his foster parents, Leo and Lydia Miller. On January 29, 1966 he married Marilyn Powell in Bartonville; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Jason (Jennifer) Hunt of Metamora and Tricia (Darrell) Glenn of Washington; his grandchildren, Nolan, Landon, Grace, Griffin, Jacob, and Addison; and his siblings, Jack (Bonnie) Hunt, Renee (late John) Fletcher, Charles (Nancy) Miller, and Pat (Jeff) Goranson. Ron served in the US Army at Fort Knox from 1962-1964, and was privileged to be on the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in 2013. Following his service, he went to work at Caterpillar as an industrial photographer in sales and marketing; he retired in 2002 after 40 years of service. Over the years, Ron was involved with Peoria Players, Cat Mixed Chorus, and Corn Stock Theatre. He was a longtime member of Crossroads United Methodist Church and volunteered with WHIP for many years. In his retirement, he enjoyed being a tour guide with Peoria Charter Coach. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren dearly; he loved spending as much time with them as he could. A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight or Toys for Tots.
