Obituary WASHINGTON - Romaine E. Hurd, 67, of Washington, died at 10:32 am Monday, December 4, 2006 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Born on November 17, 1939 in Eureka, IL to Roy and Margaret Stromberger Roper, she married Clifford L. Hurd on November 4, 1961 in Peoria. He died on August 11, 1999 in Peoria. Surviving are her mother, Margaret Roper of Washington, 1 son, Clifford R. (Ellen J.) Hurd of Washington and 2 daughters, Victoria (Donald) Craig of Washington and Rebecca (Raymond) Sawyer of Kennet, MO, 1 stepson, Randall F. (Susan) Hurd of East Peoria and 2 step-daughters, Lynn (Rick) Norton of Peoria, IL and Caren (Ed) Kirwan of Creve Coeur, 1 brother, Bill (JoAnna) Roper of Metamora, 17 Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and 1 brother, Robert. She worked as a tailor, and retired in 2001 as the Manager of the Men's Department at Sears after 25 years of service. After retiring she volunteered for the Salvation Army, and was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening. Services will be at 7:00 pm Thursday, December 7, 2006 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington, where visitation will be from 5-7 pm. The Rev. Dr. Alan J. Newhall will officiate. Cremation Rites will be accorded.
