Obituary

Roger "Tony" Allen VanEtten, 95, of Washington, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at OSF St. Francis.

Tony was born on September 29, 1929 in Forest City, IL to Cecil Velma (Morris) and Earl George VanEtten. He married his first wife, Patricia Carpentier. He went on to marry his second wife, Flora Ann Wilson on July 14, 1973 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2010.

Surviving are his children, Wendy (Phil) Seyller, Carla (Steve) Gutsch, and Eric (Roberta) VanEtten; his step-children, Christine (Dave) Deichmueller, Brian (Vickie) Wilson, Karen Warner, Andy (Annie) Wilson, Dodi (Jim) Young, and Pamela (Gary) Streitmatter; 30 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patricia; his second wife, Flora; his son, David VanEtten; 2 daughters, Tammy Jackson and Karen Dean; and his brothers, Tom and Dick VanEtten.

Tony served in the Air Force during peace time in Quam. He then worked as a tool grinder at Caterpillar for 30 years before retirement. He was also a volunteer fireman for Limestone Township for some years. Tony enjoyed fishing and camping with his wife Flora before she passed and was known to join caravan trips in his camper. He will be dearly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to OSF Health Care Foundation Oncology Department.

Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation has been accorded.
