Obituary
WASHINGTON - Roger D. Steiger, 79, of Washington, died at 7:20 am Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at his residence.
Born on December 16, 1928 in Grafton, NE to Max and Freda Issler Steiger, he married Katherine Hall in June of 1951 in Peoria. She died in 1973. He later married Linda Sue Haney on July 1, 1977 in Pekin, IL. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons, Norman (Lisa) Steiger of Palmer, TX and Raymond (Loretta) Ellis of Washington, IL, 1 daughter, Nancy (Niles) Godsey of Washington, IL, 1 brother, Gerald Steiger of Hastings, NE, 4 sisters, Cleo (Dale) Snow of Glenvil, NE, Gretchen Griess of Lincoln, NE, Valjean (Francis) Reinsch of Geneva, NE and Deanna (Kenny) Thornberg of Loveland, CO, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 daughters, 6 brothers and 2 sisters.
A US Army veteran, Roger served during the Korean Conflict form 1953-1955.
Roger worked for Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Research and later worked as a Gear Specialist, retiring after 39 years of service. He was a member of UAW Local #974.
Roger also was a school bus driver for District #50 in Washington for many years. He enjoyed coaching baseball with the Northern Tazewell Recreation Association.
Services will be at 10 am Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Steve Hardin will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday, June 6, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton, where military rites will be accorded by the Tazewell Military Rites Team.
Memorials may be made to Northern Tazewell Fire and Rescue or to Roland Manor Baptist Church.
