Robert F.
Riffle
Sep 25, 1931 — Jun 28, 2022
Robert F. "Bob" Riffle, 90, of Washington, passed away at 5:25pm Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Bob was born September 25, 1931 in LaFayette, IN to the late Marion and Myra Ford Riffle. He married Rosemary "Pinky" Chandler on June 9, 1956 in LaGrange, IL.
Surviving are his wife, Pinky; four children, Rebecca (Frank) Dixon of Avon, IN, Robert Marion (Radine) Riffle of Washington, Ruth Vincent (Bill Stangel) of Germantown Hills, and Richard C. (Patricia) Riffle of Phoenix, AZ; eleven grandchildren, Corinn Dixon, Elena (Jared) Householder; Robert M.Y., Riana, Ryan, and Raquelle Riffle; Anthony Vincent; Jacob (Kelsey) Vincent; Theodore (Madison), Noah, and Shelby Riffle; four great-grandchildren, Paisley, Axel, and Theodore Vincent; and TJ Riffle; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by two siblings, James Riffle and Lois Jean Oshier.
Bob was a man of the highest integrity and generosity, and showed the same high level of respect to everyone he met, including corporate officers and dignitaries, factory workers, and most recently, doctors, nurses, PCTs, and the gentleman who cleaned his hospital room. A proud graduate of Indiana University, he traveled the world as an auditor for Caterpillar, and retired as the Controller of Caterpillar's Engine Division. Bob honorably served in the military, achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Happily married for 66 years, Bob shared a wonderful life with family friends, and neighbors around Washington. He loved to garden, and was most proud of his tomatoes. He enjoyed walking both here in Washington and on the beach in St. Augustine, Florida, where he spent 21 winters. As an avid reader himself, Bob also loved to promote reading through the Washington Children's Library, donating to and promoting the cause in many ways. Bob lived a Catholic life, and he faithfully attended and supported St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington for over 60 years. Most importantly, Bob loved and cherished his entire family, and his entire family loved and cherished him.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-3:00pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington District Library, Attn: Lexi (https://washingtondl.org/). Every Christmas, Father's Day, and Birthday, Bob asked his children to make donations for the purchase of children's books to the Washington District Library, instead of receiving gifts himself. These contributions will be used to add to the library's collection of books from "Grandpa BH."
