Obituary

Robert "Bob" Dean Houck, 80, of Washington passed away due to respiratory complications on Friday, May 29, 2026, at St Francis Medical Center. Bob was born on December 27, 1945, in Gridley, IL, the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Shoemaker) Houck.

Bob proudly served our country in the Army during the Vietnam era. He then worked for Caterpillar for 40 years until he retired.

Bob married Faye Frye on July 8, 1983, in Eureka. He loved to spend time with his family, usually sitting outside in the sun as much as he could. Bob loved taking care of his yard and it showed as he had the best-looking lawn every year. He enjoyed classic cars-at one point owning a '39 Chevy with suicide doors. He always took the best care of his cars and enjoyed washing them by hand. Bob was also an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. You could often find him at The Bunker playing horseshoes and bags, with a beer in hand.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of nearly 43 years Faye Houck of Washington, his daughters Sherri (Rod) Waters of Metamora, Kristi (Jim) Akers of Peoria, 5 grandchildren: Sarah (Nathan) Lee, Alyssa (Max Johnson) Waters, Ben (Maris) Fitch, Sgt. Isaac Akers USAF, and Ian Akers USMA West Point and 4 great-grandchildren.

To honor Bob's wishes cremation rites will be accorded by the Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. The family will have a private celebration of Bob's life at a later date.

Those who wish may leave memorials in Bob's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
