Obituary EAST PEORIA - Robert A. Flinn, M.D., 76, of East Peoria, IL, died at 8:45 am Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton, IL. Born on October 8, 1934 in Moline, IL to Lewis and Florence Bridson Flinn, he married Eleanor Anderson on September 8, 1956 in Monee, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 4 children: Cheryl Flinn (Wayne Christenson) of Oak Park, IL, Michael (Janet) Flinn of East Peoria, IL, Rebecca (Kevin) Anderson of Clarendon Hills, IL, and Steve (Inge) Flinn of East Peoria, IL; 6 grandchildren: Chris (Meggan) Flinn, Beth (John) Vanne, Zack (Laura) Flinn, Matthew Anderson, Ellia Flinn, and Andreya Flinn; 1 great-granddaughter: Abigail Grace Flinn; 1 sister: Idelle (Les) Shane, of Galesburg, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Dr. Flinn graduated from Somonauk High School, Somonauk, IL in 1952, the University of Illinois in 1955, and from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1958. He interned at Cook County Hospital, then practiced as a General Practice physician in Oakland, IL for 5 years. Dr. Flinn completed his residency in Urology at the University of Illinois Hospital, and an additional fellowship in Pediatric Urology at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Flinn was a partner in Affiliated Urology Specialists in Peoria, IL until he retired in 1995. Among his accomplishments, he was instrumental in acquiring Illinois' first lithotripter, installed at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. This new technology afforded non-invasive treatment of kidney stones. He was a member of the Peoria Medical Society, where he served as President. He also served as a faculty member of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, where he was dedicated to the education of students and the improvement of the educational facilities. He was an active member of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria Alumni Association. Dr. Flinn especially enjoyed being with his family and traveling with his wife, Eleanor. He was an amateur radio operator, a pilot, and enjoyed fishing, welding, and tinkering with farm machinery. He was a member of the Peoria Area Amateur Radio Club and the Fondulac Congregational Church in East Peoria. Services for Dr. Flinn will be at 10 am Friday, May 27, 2011 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria. Rev. Larry Kirk will officiate. A private burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Sandwich, IL. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the funeral home.
