Obituary

Robert "Lindy" Arnold, 96, of East Peoria, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Carle Health Proctor Hospital.

He was born on May 18, 1927 in East Peoria to the late Chester R. and Beulah B. Boundy Arnold. He married Jean Ann Gould on August 9, 1959 in East Peoria; she preceded him in death on April 30, 1997.

Surviving are three children, Debra (Jeffrey) Steenson of St. Paul, MN, David (Sally) Arnold of Coralville, IA, and Diane (Todd) Forney of Germantown Hills; his grandchildren, Kristina Lishawa, Eric Steenson, John Steenson, Julie Arnold, Jonathan (Hannah) Arnold, Brett Rhoades, Brandon, Rhoades, Morgan (Sam) Stuber, and Madison Forney; and his great-grandchildren, Peter Lishawa, Andrew Lishawa, Sienna Arnold, Ava Arnold, and Silas Rhoades.

He was also preceded in death by his two brothers.

Lindy graduated from East Peoria High School in 1945, where he played basketball and football, before attending Bradley University.

Service and faith were the hallmarks of Lindy's life. He was stationed stateside in the US Navy during World War II and in the US Army, stationed at Yokohama, Japan during the Korean War.

For 35 years, he worked for the citizens of East Peoria as the City Clerk and Finance Officer, retiring in 1991, and was active in several professional associations.

Lindy was a faithful and committed disciple of Jesus Christ, shepherding his own family, teaching Sunday School, and serving in his church. He was a longtime member of Grace Presbyterian Church, holding

positions an Elder, and more over the years. He was a Core Leader for Community Bible Study and a member of Gideons International, always seeking to share Jesus with others.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00am Friday, August 4, 2023 at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria. Pastor John Hopwood will officiate both services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church to benefit their missions fund or Peoria Area Youth for Christ.
