Obituary

Obituary East Peoria - Rita M. Meads, 88, of East Peoria, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Joseph Home in Lacon. She was born August 25, 1926 in York, PA to James A. and Mary M. Kumerant Noll. She married C. Philip Meads on June 16, 1951 in York, PA. He survives. Also surviving are three children, Beth (Rick) Ortiz of Santa Cruz, NM, Kathy (Gene) Brandt of Morton; Mike (Dawn) Meads of Acworth, GA; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Noll of Fairfax, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Anne; and her brother, Louis "Dick" Noll. Rita dedicated her life to her family and at age 50 she started working for Caterpillar Inc. but she never diminished the care she provided to her family. She retired from Caterpiller Inc in May of 1992 and in 2000 she moved to Florida and got her dream job at Disney working until she reached the age of 80. Rita was a member of both Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton and St. Monica's Catholic Church in East Peoria for over 50 years. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and delivered the Eucharist to many of the sick and homebound. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to St. Joseph Home in Lacon out of appreciation for the loving care they provided to Rita. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton with Msgr. Gerald Ward officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, January 2, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria, with the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Further visitation will be 30 minutes before Mass on Saturday morning at the church.
