Ricky Dean French, 72, of Washington, passed away Friday, August 15, 2025 peacefully at his residence with his family by his side.

He was born March 16, 1953 in Peoria, IL to Bert Jr. and Bonnie Sue (Webb) French.  He married Shawna Wagner in Washington, IL on September 20, 1997.  She survives.

Also surviving are two beloved children, Shane (Jana) French, Angela Simpson; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren plus one on the way in 4 weeks; two brothers, C. Michael French and Mary Ellen, Mark French; and many cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Clint.

Ricky was an over the road truck driver for 37 years, driving nearly 4,000,000 miles over 48 states before retiring due to his illness.  Shawna was able to travel with him and will cherish their time together greatly.  He played the guitar and was an incredible musician.  His band opened for many well known artists.  One of his main passions along with music was his extreme love for his family, especially his beautiful grandchildren.  Ricky and Shawna loved the Lord, and their faith in Jesus got them through tough times.  Ricky leaned on his favorite poem, "Footprints in the Sand"

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate, or to the family.

Per his wishes, cremation has been accorded.  There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.  Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
