Obituary East Peoria - Richard D. Winkler, 82 of East Peoria died at Hopedale Nursing Home in Hopedale on Friday April 25, 2014 at 2:25 PM surrounded by his family. He was born January 11, 1932 in Peoria, IL to Walter and Mildred Wiesehan Winkler. He was raised on the family farm in East Peoria. On February 17, 1952 he married Jean R. Stone in Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by three daughters, Deborah (Rick) Garrison of Tremont, DeDe (J.R.) Friedrich of Germantown Hills, IL, Danine (Terry) Grebner of Glasford; one son, Richard W. Winkler of Peoria; six grandchildren, Gretchen (Nick) Uhlman, Matthew (Amanda) Winkler, Mallory (Danny) Osterloo, Hannah Grebner, Jack Friedrich and A.J. Friedrich; and two great-grandchildren, Brady and Kinze Uhlman. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and Harold Winkler and his parents. Richard was a toolmaker at Caterpillar in East Peoria for forty years, retiring on May 1, 1990. After he retired he enjoyed yard work and gardening. He was a very handy man and could fix anything. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria where he was an active usher and served on the property board as well as many other boards. He also volunteered in the church office. There will be a funeral service for Richard 11 AM Tuesday April 29, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria. Pastor Mark Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be Monday April 28, 2014 from 5-7 PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria and one hour prior to the service at the church.
