Obituary

Richard "Dick" Riehl, 96, of Washington, passed away at his home at 10:45 am Monday, February 1, 2021. He was born July 27, 1924 in Boston Heights, Ohio to the late Lawrence and Elizabeth Quetsch Riehl. He married Bertha L. "Bertie" Sann in Peoria on May 6, 1950. She preceded him in death on June 8, 2012. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford, Elroy, Robert; and one sister, Margaret. Surviving are one son, Dennis "Dennie" (Evelyn) Riehl of Washington; and one grandson, Nathaniel (Kristina) Riehl of Bloomington. Dick was a proud WWII Navy Veteran. He worked at Caterpillar Inc. as an electrical engineer retiring from the Mapleton Foundry on October 1, 1985 after 35 years of service. He was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington and enjoyed singing with the church choir. He was a member of the local Winnie Poo Club (Winnebago Motor Home Club) for many years and enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife. He also enjoyed woodworking, refinishing antique furniture, and gardening and bird watching with his wife. Visitation with face coverings and social distancing will be from 4 to 6pm Monday, February 8, 2021 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Washington, with additional visitation from 10 to 11am Tuesday at the church prior to the funeral. His funeral service will be at 11am Tuesday, February 9th at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Thomas Heren officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to his church, or Lutheran Church Charities.
